Durham recognized for rich history

"Durham is home to Duke University and a major research belt. Outside of college sports games, Durham has a long history with many historical sites nearby. From its rich African-American history to Civil War to tobacco, history runs deep in Durham. After exploring the many museums and art galleries, I would relax at one of the many hotels in Durham, like the Durham Hotel, which has a rooftop terrace and hydro massage shower heads."

The Economist recognizes Durham's success as a city

"Nuvotronics is part of a cluster of high-tech firms that has increased Durham’s GDP per-person by 28% since 2001. By the same measure, North Carolina as a whole grew by just 3% over the same period. Durham’s success reflects an emerging trend: high-flying cities, and the successful firms they contain, are detaching from the rest of the economy."

Cameron Indoor Stadium recognized as a unique college arena experience

“The secret to the team’s box office success does not lie with any single player, or even with the school’s legendary coach, Mike Krzyzewski. Rather, the charm of Duke’s basketball emanates foremost from the unique experience of attending a game in Cameron Indoor Stadium – one of the last arenas in big-time college sports that remain truly a college arena.”

Thanks to the presence of Duke University, as well as the city’s position in the Research Triangle of North Carolina, Durham has always benefited from a near constant influx of new residents not only from around the country, but from around the world. The result is a diverse, multi-cultural town in the heart of North Carolina with everything from stellar restaurants to an almost inconceivably robust calendar of cultural events throughout the year."

RTP recognized for contribution to making the Triangle a known startup hub

"Starting in the 1950s, the park worked closely with Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University to provide low-rent space and training for students. The goal was to keep bright students in North Carolina after they graduated. Many stayed to start and run companies. Eventually the eight-county area between Durham, Raleigh and Chapel Hill became known as “The Triangle” and lured major employers, such as IBM."

"When Cara Rousseau, social media manager for Duke University, emailed me about the new Duke University Admissions website, I was immediately intrigued. With a stated goal of wanting to "create a true-to-life Duke experience within the digital space" that focused on the "student voice and student-to-student interactions, the new site is mobile-ready and built upon quality storytelling. One particularly notable aspect of the new Admissions site is that it incorporates a longer, scrolling page design."

Philanthropy Roundtable - The Duke Endowment

"Tobacco made [James B. Duke] one of the richest men in the world, and he created a worldwide market for North Carolina’s signature crop...although he had a Fifth Avenue mansion in New York, although he had tobacco interests around the world and hydroelectric projects as far afield as Quebec, when he turned to philanthropy, he remained a man of the Carolinas."
