Durham recognized for its food scene

"Over the last decade the state’s small, charismatic cities like Asheville and Durham have soaked up plenty of attention for their budding food scenes."

Durham recognized as great place for boomers to live

"If I were going to move out of my walkable neighborhood, or cash out of my valuable downtown property, I would head for a college town; you can usually find a good cappuccino, a second-run movie house, a decent bookstore and as I found in Durham, North Carolina, food trucks galore. If the university has a medical school, so much the better. It always was a thing but is becoming more popular than ever."

The Durham Hotel recognized for it's mid-century design

"The Durham is housed inside the former Home Savings Bank, which provides the stunning architectural setting for LA-based design studio Commune’s aesthetic vision. The studio effectively turned the iconic building’s six stories — encompassing 53 guest rooms, a penthouse, a rooftop lounge and a restaurant with an outdoor dining terrace — into a modern reinterpretation of the best of mid-century American design, inspired by the likes of Josef and Anni Albers, Charles Eames, and Albert Frey."

DBAP to get two new digital signs

"The common theme for many of today’s sports stadium installations is digital: large scale video boards, digital signage, menu boards, video walls and digital audio. That same focus went into TSE’s designs at stadiums like BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte, N.C. and the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C."

Trivago features Durham's dining and lodging

"Durham isn’t your average city. Thanks to the presence of Duke University, as well as the city’s position in the Research Triangle of North Carolina, Durham has always benefited from a near constant influx of new residents not only from around the country, but from around the world. The result is a diverse, multi-cultural town in the heart of North Carolina with everything from stellar restaurants to an almost inconceivably robust calendar of cultural events throughout the year."

Virgin Atlantic features Gaurav Patel's favorite spots to dine

"When I’m in Durham at the end of the day, I usually end up at Bar Virgile . It’s cozy in there, it has that I-know-a-secret feel, and I’m always amazed at what comes out of that tiny kitchen. The charcuterie is outstanding and their bourbon list is a fun one.”

"If it’s lunchtime, G heads to Pizzeria Toro where he’ll indulge in one of their specialty pizza pies and a glass of wine. This is no pepperoni-and-cheese pizza place; it’s a spot where you’ll find a spicy lamb meatball, venison sausage, locally grown squash and mushrooms, and imported Italian cheese on a pie. “It’s a pizza, but it’s unexpected and executed perfectly.”

RTP recognized for contribution to making the Triangle a known startup hub

"Starting in the 1950s, the park worked closely with Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University to provide low-rent space and training for students. The goal was to keep bright students in North Carolina after they graduated. Many stayed to start and run companies. Eventually the eight-county area between Durham, Raleigh and Chapel Hill became known as “The Triangle” and lured major employers, such as IBM."
